EA has quietly removed Mass Effect content from Battlefield 6 following the shutdown of BioWare, the series developer. The content, which included sci-fi weaponry and N7-branded items, was added to the game's cosmetic menus with the launch of Season 5 earlier this month. Fans had speculated that the content was a precursor to an update on the long-in-development Mass Effect 5 project, but EA announced just days ago that it had no plans for BioWare or Mass Effect. The remaining team of developers at BioWare were abruptly laid off when the studio was shut down on October 21, 2026, and EA confirmed that Mass Effect 5 was canceled. The removal of the Mass Effect content from Battlefield 6 has further divided a community of gamers already disheartened by EA leadership. Continuing to push Mass Effect content on fans mourning the demise of the franchise would have only added insult to injury. The Mass Effect cosmetics were likely finished and ready for launch at any moment, but their removal has left fans with no plans for N7 Day festivities on November 7. Amazon's Prime Video has confirmed that its previously announced Mass Effect TV series is still in the works following BioWare's closure, but the future of the game franchise remains uncertain. EA was acquired by Saudi Arabia's PIF, Silver Lake, and Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners in August of this year, and some analysts believe the decision to close BioWare was "entirely predictable." A petition to save the series has been launched and has amassed over 50,000 signatures. A trailer for the now-canceled Mass Effect 5 also leaked online.
