Salient Games has announced Realpolitiks 4: Back to the Roots, the next installment in the grand strategy series that lets players lead virtually any country and shape global politics. The game returns to the foundations of the original Realpolitiks, with accessible real-time gameplay, the freedom to set your own goals, and competition in which economic strength, diplomacy, and military power are tools for building a nation’s standing.

The game expands this formula with new systems and a clearer interface, making it easier to assess the situation and understand the consequences of your decisions. The announcement marks a fresh start for the series, following Salient Games’ acquisition of the rights to the Realpolitiks franchise. A new team is developing the fourth installment, beginning with a thorough review of previous entries: the features that worked best, the elements that needed improvement, and feedback from the community.

The original Realpolitiks, the best-received game in the series, remains the primary point of reference. The game is set to launch in 2027, marking the franchise’s tenth anniversary. A playable demo is expected within a few weeks, giving players an early opportunity to experience the changes firsthand. The main scenario, “Into the New Millennium,” begins on January 1, 2000, when many of the events that shaped today’s world had yet to unfold.

Players will face the challenges of the past quarter-century and have the opportunity to influence their course: from economic crises and the expansion of international organizations to rising tensions and conflicts. Their decisions can set their country, and the world around it, on a different path. Realpolitiks 4 will let players define success on their own terms: economic might, military dominance, space conquest, or the global spread of their chosen ideology.

They can even seek to reshape the world order so that far-left or far-right governments become the dominant force. The game features international organizations, advisors with their own agendas, interest groups and public opinion, tax policy, stock markets and investment, greater control over military operations, space conquest, and expanded historical events and decisions.

Players will be able to judge the series’ new direction for themselves before launch, with a playable Realpolitiks 4 demo expected within a few weeks of the announcement.
