Francis Lawrence, director of Netflix's BioShock movie, expressed concerns that the upcoming release of GTA 6 might distract audiences from his new film Sunrise on the Reaping, which hits theaters in November. Lawrence, known for his work on the Hunger Games films, mentioned his favorite video games including Metal Gear Solid, BioShock, and Call of Duty, and the original GTA.
He joked that people should find time to play GTA and watch his movie. Lawrence has been working on the live-action BioShock movie at Netflix for nearly 20 years, and is also gearing up to direct a film adaptation of Red Rising, a young adult book series. The release of GTA 6 is close to the release of Sunrise on the Reaping, which Lawrence hopes people will be able to see despite the competition.
Lawrence's comments come after a previous director, Guillermo del Toro, expressed his own negative experience with the BioShock adaptation project, calling it one of the most disastrous calls he's ever had.
