Steam's Next Fest has become a dumping ground for low-quality game demos, making it difficult to find and wishlist good games. The October edition saw around 7,100 demos available, with many being hastily cobbled together and lacking tools to separate the wheat from the chaff. The general consensus is to be patient and look for popular games, which can be found in the Top 50 Next Fest demos for October 2026.

These demos span various genres and themes, with social, co-op, and friendslop games rising to the top, including Worst Class Ever and Fart Together. Niche management and shopkeeper sims also attracted players, with Probably Stolen and Abyssal Lapidary proving popular.

The list of Top 50 demos should be a starting point for checking out game demos that drew massive buzz, but waiting a week to see what's worth playing based on popularity alone isn't ideal. Valve hasn't commented on the mess, despite the public outcry, and the number of games for this instance of the event almost doubled compared with the June 2026 edition. If this trend continues, next year's Next Fest in February could be even more difficult to explore. Beyond Next Fest, Steam has confirmed the dates for several upcoming sales and themed promotions for the rest of 2026 and the first half of 2027.
