Resident Evil Requiem is brilliant. I don’t need to tell you that, the critical scores across the board, feedback from both fans and newcomers, and the fact that Leon Kennedy returns are enough evidence to support my opinion. Halloween may be dead until next year, but what hasn’t died is the need to defeat hordes of infected. With the latest Resident Evil game cheaper than ever, there’s no better time to buy it. You only have one day to get it at this price, though.
What makes Resident Evil Requiem one of the best horror games and one of the best entries in the franchise is how it balances the recent first-person perspective entries with the survival horror-action hybrid of older games. As Grace Ashcroft, you’re forced to deal with enemies that will easily overpower you and, if you’re anything like me, avoid the darkness in that forsaken basement level. As Leon, it’s third-person horror and action, parrying fatal attacks with a satisfyingly timed hatchet block and unleashing a barrage of bullets against foes that you found horrifying as Grace.
Of course, the story follows a familiar Resident Evil plot, but it’s done so well that it remains captivating throughout. Grace’s story, as an FBI analyst, takes her to the hotel where her mother was murdered. Finally coming face-to-face with her trauma, she inevitably has to deal with a very clearly virus-infected researcher who wants her for some reason. You’ll have to find out why when you play it. Leon, an agent for the Division of Security Operations, has his own investigation, which eventually intertwines with Grace’s story, bringing everything together in a truly gripping way. As the meme suggests: absolute cinema.
I’m someone who has been a fan of both the old and new entries. I loved Resident Evil 2 and beyond, but I truly fell in love with the franchise with Resident Evil 7. Seeing both styles combined isn't confusing; it feels like the perfect blend. You’ll also get to play the new Leon Must Die Forever mode after completing the story. It's a time-based survival mode with roguelite elements, and alongside the usual Resident Evil speedrun shenanigans you may get up to, it really adds to your playtime.
Usually, you’d have to pay full price, or settle for a small discount, but right now, you can grab Resident Evil Requiem for just $40.59 / £34.79 at Fanatical, but only for 24 hours. That’s a Steam key, too, so you can add it to your library and start downloading it straight away. Or, you can add it to your backlog if you want. We’re all human after all. Well, except for the bioweapons, of course.
Spoiler alert: You’re in for a great time. After writing all this, I feel the urge to go backflip off a wall while dodging an attack for no reason. Weird.
