Retro Games Ltd and PLAION have unveiled an original piece of digital artwork, ‘Beyond the Screen’, created by renowned Amiga artist Klas Benjaminsson on an original Amiga 1200. The artwork demonstrates the creative possibilities of the machine that inspired a generation of digital artists, musicians, animators, and game developers in the early 1990s.
Produced at a resolution of 640 × 512 pixels using 32 colours, the artwork brings together wildlife, lush vegetation, and ocean life, bursting from the screen of an Amiga computer. Klas Benjaminsson said: ‘For me, the real magic of the Amiga was discovering just how much you could create with it.’
The unveiling marks the beginning of a partnership with PosterSpy, the creative community renowned for its distinctive poster artwork. PosterSpy will invite artists from its community to take inspiration from Klas's original creation, reimagining the spirit of Amiga creativity through their own contemporary styles, tools, and techniques.
A small selection of artists will be chosen to develop original interpretations, with the finished works showcased as part of the THEA1200 launch campaign. The collaboration celebrates not just the Amiga's past, but its continuing influence on creative expression today. THEA1200 brings back the spirit of one of the most beloved home computers of the 1990s, arriving on 4th December 2026.
