Activision has apologized for using footage from the 2022 Itaewon crowd crush tragedy in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and pledged to remove it after victims' families spoke out, according to South Korean publication Inven. The game's opening title sequence featured a montage of news reports discussing a fictional North Korean invasion into South Korea, accompanied by archival clips from actual news reports, including footage of a paramedic giving CPR to someone lying on the floor.
This led to statements from the Itaewon Disaster Bereaved Families Association and the Korea Game Users Association calling on Activision to remove the footage.
