Doom and Quake co-creator John Romero has confirmed that his unannounced shooter project, previously dropped by Xbox, now has a new publisher. The game was initially defunded by an unspecified publisher, later named as Microsoft, after a wave of layoffs across the corporation. Romero Games had denied closing the studio, but had to let go of most staff, leaving only five people behind.
The studio has now rehired 10 staff members, who were the leads of the different sub-teams, and is working on a redesigned and rescaled game. Romero prefers working with a smaller team, allowing him to be more involved in the game's development and make decisions by hand. He has also expressed his satisfaction with the current team size of 15-16 staff, which is suitable for the game's scope.
