OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has claimed that his controversial remarks on PC users buying RAM were taken out of context. He made the comments on the Cheeky Pint podcast, where he discussed the worldwide RAM shortage and suggested that maximum utilization in the cloud is preferable to having limited supply of DRAM in individual computers. His comments were met with criticism online, particularly in the gaming community, where many are struggling to upgrade their PCs due to the RAM shortage, partially created by Altman's OpenAI.

Altman has since addressed the critics on his X account, stating that he actually wants the world to have tons of memory and for people to put as much as they want in their computers. He claims that his previous comments were taken out of context and that he has been arguing for the world to ramp up memory production for a long time. However, the RAM crisis is expected to continue until at least 2028, and worsen in 2027, having a disastrous impact on the gaming industry with hardware price increases across the board.
