Vancouver-based Charm Games has become the world's first gaming studio to be certified as human-created content by Proudly Human, a certification body that verifies and labels human-created products. The studio's upcoming game, The Orphaned House, was measured against world-first standards to ensure human authorship throughout its complex production. Certification allows Charm Games to display the ProudlyHuman trust mark on the game's artwork and promotional materials, promoting itself as the world's first ProudlyHuman gaming studio.
The certification comes as the video game industry grapples with the rise of AI-generated content, with over a third of demos submitted to Steam NextFest featuring generative AI disclosures. Players and developers have expressed concerns about creative ownership, quality, and creativity in AI-generated games, highlighting the need for a clear standard for human-created content. Dr. Alan Finkel, Proudly Human Chairman, believes that creators behind human-created games deserve recognition for their art and players should be able to choose human-created games with confidence.
