Nexus Mods has updated its policy on generative AI, making disclosure of AI usage mandatory but ruling out an outright ban on AI mods. The new rules aim to find a solution that works for both sides of its divided community. Existing mod authors have 60 days to comply with the new rules, with moderation done manually and users encouraged to report mods if they believe they haven’t disclosed AI content.
The site owner, Foledinho, emphasizes that Nexus Mods is pro-human creativity and will continue to evolve its policies alongside the changing landscape of AI usage in modding. Users will be able to determine how much AI content they are willing to tolerate in the mods they download, with tags available to filter out certain mods from the home page.
The new policies have sparked a divisive reaction from the community, with some calling for an outright ban and others arguing that generative AI has made modding more accessible.
