Microsoft has announced a voluntary redundancy scheme that could see 60,000 people leave their jobs, which is around a quarter of the company’s entire staff. The offer is available to eligible employees in Canada, India, the United Kingdom and the United States. According to Business Insider, the offer is the company’s latest attempt to slim its workforce without involuntary cuts, after heavy spending on AI infrastructure.
Executive vice president Amy Coleman said the offer would give employees financial support and career planning resources. This is part of Microsoft’s efforts to adapt to changing needs and give employees more flexibility in their careers. In gaming, Microsoft has made significant changes to Xbox’s content strategy this year, including layoffs and studio closures.
Xbox boss Asha Sharma has denied that the gaming division could be sold by Microsoft, stating that Xbox is not for sale and will be set up for success through the right partnerships and operating model.
