Funcom has announced a free expansion for Dune: Awakening, titled Blood and Ice, which will launch on December 1 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. The expansion takes players to the frozen north of Arrakis, introducing a new map called the Polar Sink, where heat becomes an ally and surviving the cold demands new gear, resources, and strategies.
The Polar Sink map features two distinct biomes: the tundra and the ice cap, with players beginning in the tundra and needing to upgrade equipment to withstand the cold. The expansion also introduces new vehicle modules, augments, and specialization traits, with around 35 hours of progression and opportunities to return for valuable resources.
Funcom also announced a new cosmetics store offering outfits, vehicle variants, and additional ways to customize bases, with purchases supporting continued development and free updates. The store will launch with rotating items, including recognizable looks from the films, and a future update will make the full catalog available at all times.
The Blood and Ice expansion is free for all players on all platforms, and Funcom plans to deliver events more frequently, with new stories and free rewards alongside continued gameplay improvements. The company has ambitious plans for Dune: Awakening in 2027, with several major free updates that will expand the game with new locations, mechanics, and content to discover.
